Free magnifying glass SVG files

Free magnifying glass SVG files: a classic glass with an open lens, a plain search icon, an outline, a solid lens, and glasses held over a fingerprint, a globe, a book and a trail of footprints, plus a heart, an eye, a paw and a monogram frame.

16 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

Open lens or solid lens

A real lens is clear, and there are two ways to draw that in one colour. The open lens is a ring: whatever the glass is stuck on shows through, which looks right on a window, a notebook or a map. The solid lens is a disc with a shape cut out of it, and it is the stronger of the two in wood, felt and acrylic. On the classic glass the rim is about 7 mm wide when the design is 100 mm tall, and the handle about 12 mm.

Things drawn inside an open lens, such as the fingerprint, the crosshairs and the globe, all run out to the rim. That is what holds them in place, so do not trim them back when you weed.

Putting your own thing under the glass

The classic glass and the monogram frame are made to sit over something of your own. Place an initial, a small picture or a word inside the ring in your cutting software. On the monogram frame the opening is about 71 mm across when the design is 100 mm tall. Make what is inside a little bigger than it would be outside, and it reads as magnified.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Which magnifying glass should I use as a search icon?

The simple search icon. It is a bold ring and a thick handle with nothing fine in it, so it stays clear at 15 to 20 mm. The classic glass has a glint and a collar, which start to fill in below about 40 mm.

Why is the glint joined to the rim on the classic magnifying glass?

A glint floating in the middle of an open lens would be a loose piece and would fall out when cut. Two small ties hold it to the rim. If you would rather have no ties, use the glass with a solid lens, where the glint is a cut-out.

Can I cut the footprints and the glass separately?

Yes. That design is nine loose pieces: four shoe prints, each a sole and a heel, and the magnifying glass. Ungroup them to space the prints along a wall or a path, with the glass at the end where the clue is hidden.
