Free hippie SVG files

Free hippie SVG files: fat-petalled flowers with a peace sign or a smile in the middle, peace and love symbols in a row, round glasses with peace sign lenses, a headband, a flower crown, a hand making a V, a tie-dye spiral, a lava lamp and a girl with long hair and heart-shaped glasses. No van, no lettering and nothing borrowed from a band or a festival.

Bold shapes, loud colours

The flower of the sixties is a simple thing: five to eight fat round petals with no gaps between them and a plain round middle. That makes it one of the easiest shapes to cut and weed, and it is why these flowers survive at 25 mm across on a phone case or 300 mm across on a wall. The peace sign in the middle of the first flower has bars about 4 mm wide when the flower is 100 mm tall.

Colour does most of the work. Cut the flowers from orange, pink, yellow, turquoise and lime and mix them, or use the layered flower to stack four colours in one. The tie-dye spiral is a stencil as much as a decal: lay it on a shirt and dab bleach or fabric paint through the bands, or put a sheet of rainbow vinyl behind it.

What to make

The flower crown is open in the middle, about 46 mm across at full size, and frames an initial for a festival bag or a photograph for a birthday card. The headband and the round glasses sit well across the top of a mirror. The row of peace, love and flower is the one for a long thin space: a bumper, a guitar strap or the rail of a bunk bed.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

Why is there no camper van in the set?

Because the van that everyone pictures is one maker’s design, and this library does not copy real makes. The camper set has generic vans. Everything here is made of things nobody owns: flowers, hearts, a hand, a pair of round glasses.

Where are the plain peace signs?

In the peace sign set, which has more than a dozen. Here the sign only appears inside other things: the middle of a flower, the lenses of the glasses, the heart.

Is the girl meant to be anyone?

No. She has no face: only long hair, a headband, a flower and a pair of heart-shaped glasses, so she is nobody in particular and could be anyone’s aunt in 1969.
