Free hexagon SVG files
Free hexagon SVG files, each drawn by code so all six sides are exactly equal and every corner is exactly 120 degrees: solid and rounded hexagons, outlines in several weights, dashed, stitched and scalloped edges, nested and linked hexagons, and hexagons divided into triangles and into the faces of a cube. Download any of them as SVG, PNG or DXF.

Point up or flat top
A regular hexagon can sit two ways. With a corner at the top it is taller than it is wide: at 100 mm tall it is 86.6 mm wide. Turned 30 degrees it has a flat side at the top and the numbers swap. Both are here, and either can be turned in your cutting software, but check the size afterwards: software measures the box round the shape, so a hexagon set to 100 mm wide is a different size point up than flat top.
The useful measurement for fitting things together is across the flats, side to opposite side. Hexagons that are the same size across the flats tile with no gaps, which is how the seven hexagons design is laid out. To make a wall of them, copy the solid hexagon, keep every copy the same size, and move each one by the across-flats width plus the gap you want.
Corners, lines and loose pieces
Sharp 120 degree corners cut cleanly on any machine, but in adhesive vinyl a sharp corner is where an edge starts to lift. For decals that will be handled or washed, the rounded hexagon and the outline with rounded corners last longer. The outlines here are from about 2 mm to 9 mm wide at 100 mm: the triple-line hexagon is the finest and should be cut at full size or larger in card and wood.
The dashed hexagon, the seven hexagons and the hexagon of six triangles are made of separate pieces, because that is the point of them. Cut them in vinyl and lift them with transfer tape so the gaps stay even, or cut each piece from a different colour of card and glue them down side by side.
How to open the files
- Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
- Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
- LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
- Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
- Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.
Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.
Questions
How do I make a honeycomb from one hexagon?
Use the solid hexagon, point up. Make a row of copies, each moved sideways by the width of the hexagon plus your gap. Copy the row, shift it sideways by half that step, and move it down by three quarters of the hexagon’s height plus a little for the gap. Repeat the two rows as far as you need.
Why does the hexagon look like a cube?
A cube seen exactly corner-on has a hexagonal outline, and its three nearest edges meet in the middle. Drawing those three lines inside a hexagon is enough for the eye to see a box. The shaded cube goes one step further: one face is solid, one is hatched and one is left open, so the box looks lit from above in a single colour.
What size is each side of the hexagon?
On a regular hexagon each side is half the corner-to-corner height. At the file size of 100 mm tall, every side of the solid hexagon is 50 mm and it is 86.6 mm across the flats. Scale the file and all three numbers scale together.
