Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.61 in (25 × 16 mm) | 0.99 mm | 459 mm | 150 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.22 in (51 × 31 mm) | 2 mm | 917 mm | 40 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 1.84 in (76 × 47 mm) | 3 mm | 1,376 mm | 15 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 2.45 in (102 × 62 mm) | 4 mm | 1,835 mm | 8 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 3.67 in (152 × 93 mm) | 5.9 mm | 2,752 mm | 3 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 4.9 in (203 × 124 mm) | 7.9 mm | 3,670 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 7.34 in (305 × 187 mm) | 12 mm | 5,505 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
