Free infinity symbol SVG files

Free infinity SVG files: the plain symbol in two weights and in outline, a ribbon loop with a twist, and infinity designs with hearts, a feather, an arrow, a cross, birds and a paw print. The curve is a true lemniscate, so both loops match exactly.

13 designs. Free for personal and commercial use, no sign-up. What you can do with them.

The shape

The infinity symbol is a figure of eight laid on its side. Mathematicians have used it for a quantity without end since John Wallis wrote it down in 1655, and the curve itself is called a lemniscate. Because it has no beginning and no end, it has become a common sign for lasting love, friendship and family.

Every design here is drawn on the same curve, about twice as wide as it is tall. The classic symbol is 100 mm wide with a 9 mm line, and the thin one has a 3.6 mm line. Scale them freely: at 30 mm wide the classic line is still 2.7 mm across.

Adding names and cutting

A popular use is to break the line and set a name or a date into one loop. Open the file in your cutting software, type the word in a script font, lay it over the top of a loop and use Weld, then erase the line beneath it with Slice or the eraser if it shows through the letters.

The plain, heart and cross designs are single pieces and cut well in vinyl, card and 3 mm wood. The feather design has fine splits, so keep it at 90 mm wide or more. The birds and the paw print are loose pieces: lift everything together on transfer tape so they stay where they belong.

How to open the files

  • Cricut Design Space: choose Upload, pick the SVG, and add it to the canvas. Set the width you want; the shape is already welded.
  • Silhouette Studio: Designer Edition and above open the SVG. The free Basic Edition does not, so open the DXF instead.
  • LightBurn, xTool Creative Space and Glowforge: import the SVG, then set the layer to cut, score or engrave.
  • Inkscape, Illustrator and Affinity: open the SVG. It is a plain filled path, so you can recolour it, add a stroke or combine it with your own work.
  • Printing or sublimation: use the PNG, which has a transparent background.

Each design page lists the file’s narrowest part at seven sizes, so you can tell whether it will survive at the size you plan to cut.

Questions

What does an infinity symbol with a heart mean?

Love without end. A heart on the crossing, or one loop drawn as a heart, is the usual way to say it, which is why these designs are common on wedding, anniversary and remembrance pieces.

What is a double infinity?

Two infinity symbols laid across each other through the same centre. It is often read as two people, or two promises, bound together for good, and is a favourite for couples and for best friends.

Can I put a name on the line?

Yes. Use the thin infinity sign, place the name over one side of a loop in a script font of about the same line weight, and weld the two. If the line shows through the letters, slice that section of the line away first.
