Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.89 in (25 × 23 mm) | 1.4 mm | 141 mm | 110 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 2 × 1.79 in (51 × 45 mm) | 2.8 mm | 281 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.68 in (76 × 68 mm) | 4.2 mm | 422 mm | 12 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 4 × 3.57 in (102 × 91 mm) | 5.6 mm | 563 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 5.36 in (152 × 136 mm) | 8.4 mm | 844 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 7.14 in (203 × 181 mm) | 11 mm | 1,126 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.72 in (305 × 272 mm) | 17 mm | 1,689 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
