Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.7 in (25 × 18 mm) | 0.74 mm | 268 mm | 130 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.39 in (51 × 35 mm) | 1.5 mm | 536 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.09 in (76 × 53 mm) | 2.2 mm | 805 mm | 15 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 2.78 in (102 × 71 mm) | 2.9 mm | 1,073 mm | 8 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 4.18 in (152 × 106 mm) | 4.4 mm | 1,609 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 5.57 in (203 × 141 mm) | 5.9 mm | 2,146 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 8.35 in (305 × 212 mm) | 8.8 mm | 3,219 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
