Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.9 in (25 × 23 mm) | 0.69 mm | 314 mm | 110 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.81 in (51 × 46 mm) | 1.4 mm | 628 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.71 in (76 × 69 mm) | 2.1 mm | 943 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.62 in (102 × 92 mm) | 2.7 mm | 1,257 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 5.42 in (152 × 138 mm) | 4.1 mm | 1,885 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 7.23 in (203 × 184 mm) | 5.5 mm | 2,514 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.85 in (305 × 276 mm) | 8.2 mm | 3,770 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
