Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.97 in (25 × 25 mm) | 0.76 mm | 213 mm | 100 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.93 in (51 × 49 mm) | 1.5 mm | 426 mm | 25 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.89 in (76 × 74 mm) | 2.3 mm | 639 mm | 9 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.86 in (102 × 98 mm) | 3 mm | 852 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 5.79 in (152 × 147 mm) | 4.6 mm | 1,279 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 7.72 in (203 × 196 mm) | 6.1 mm | 1,705 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 11.58 in (305 × 294 mm) | 9.1 mm | 2,557 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
