Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.83 × 1 in (21 × 25 mm) | 0.2 mm | 482 mm | 110 | Too fine for most machines |
| 1.66 × 2 in (42 × 51 mm) | 0.41 mm | 964 mm | 30 | Too fine for most machines |
| 2.49 × 3 in (63 × 76 mm) | 0.61 mm | 1,446 mm | 12 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 3.32 × 4 in (84 × 102 mm) | 0.81 mm | 1,927 mm | 6 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 4.97 × 6 in (126 × 152 mm) | 1.2 mm | 2,891 mm | 2 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6.63 × 8 in (168 × 203 mm) | 1.6 mm | 3,855 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 9.95 × 12 in (253 × 305 mm) | 2.4 mm | 5,782 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck or wall beside a cut-out; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
