SVG to PNG converter
Choose an SVG, set the size in pixels, and download a PNG. The background stays transparent unless you pick a colour.
Free, no account. The file is read by code running in your browser. It is not uploaded, and nothing about it is stored.
How to convert an SVG to PNG
- Choose your SVG, drop it on the box, or paste SVG code.
- Set the width or height in pixels, or use 2×, 4× or 8× of the SVG’s own size.
- Leave the background transparent, or untick it and pick a colour.
- Download the PNG.
Why the size matters
An SVG has no pixels: it is a list of shapes that can be drawn at any size. A PNG is a fixed grid of pixels, so the size you choose here is the detail the PNG will have for good. Enlarging a small PNG later only blurs it.
This tool draws the SVG fresh at the size you ask for, so a 4,000 pixel PNG is as crisp as a 400 pixel one. For print, work out the pixels from the paper size with the DPI calculator: 8 × 10 inches at 300 DPI is 2400 × 3000.
What the PNG contains
- The pixels your browser draws for the SVG, at exactly the width and height you set.
- Transparency wherever the SVG has none of its own background, unless you choose a colour.
- Full colour with 8 bits per channel. PNG is lossless, so there are no compression marks.
When something is missing
Browsers draw an SVG as a picture in a locked-down mode: they will not fetch other files it points to. Linked photos and web fonts therefore do not appear. Text set in a font that is not on your device falls back to another font. The fix for both is in your drawing program: embed the image, and convert text to paths (outlines) before saving.
Questions
What is the largest PNG it can make?
Up to 12,000 pixels on a side on a computer. Phones and tablets allow less memory for one picture, so very large sizes may fail there; try a smaller size or a computer.
Why does my PNG have a white background?
Either the transparent background box was unticked, or the SVG itself contains a white rectangle behind the drawing. Open it in the SVG viewer with the dark background on to see which.
Is the PNG the same size as the SVG?
It starts at the SVG’s own size, taken from its width and height or from its viewBox, and never below 512 pixels on the longer side. Change it to whatever you need.
