Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.74 in (25 × 19 mm) | 0.81 mm | 93 mm | 130 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.47 in (51 × 37 mm) | 1.6 mm | 186 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.21 in (76 × 56 mm) | 2.4 mm | 279 mm | 15 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 2.95 in (102 × 75 mm) | 3.3 mm | 372 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 4.42 in (152 × 112 mm) | 4.9 mm | 558 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 5.9 in (203 × 150 mm) | 6.5 mm | 744 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 8.84 in (305 × 225 mm) | 9.8 mm | 1,116 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
