The kind of snowflake that comes from folding a square in halves instead of thirds: eight points, a diamond in each, a smaller diamond between them and an octagon at the centre. Real snow has six arms; classrooms often have eight.

Will it cut at your size?
Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 1 in (25 × 25 mm) | 0.61 mm | 284 mm | 100 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm) | 1.2 mm | 568 mm | 25 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 3 in (76 × 76 mm) | 1.8 mm | 852 mm | 9 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 4 in (102 × 102 mm) | 2.4 mm | 1,136 mm | 4 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 6 in (152 × 152 mm) | 3.7 mm | 1,704 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 8 in (203 × 203 mm) | 4.9 mm | 2,272 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 12 in (305 × 305 mm) | 7.3 mm | 3,408 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
