Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.81 in (25 × 21 mm) | 0.53 mm | 566 mm | 120 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.62 in (51 × 41 mm) | 1.1 mm | 1,132 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.43 in (76 × 62 mm) | 1.6 mm | 1,698 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.24 in (102 × 82 mm) | 2.1 mm | 2,264 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 4.87 in (152 × 124 mm) | 3.2 mm | 3,395 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.49 in (203 × 165 mm) | 4.3 mm | 4,527 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 9.73 in (305 × 247 mm) | 6.4 mm | 6,791 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
