Will it cut at your size?
Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.8 in (25 × 20 mm) | 0.2 mm | 543 mm | 120 | Too fine for most machines |
| 2 × 1.59 in (51 × 40 mm) | 0.41 mm | 1,085 mm | 30 | Too fine for most machines |
| 3 × 2.39 in (76 × 61 mm) | 0.61 mm | 1,628 mm | 12 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 4 × 3.19 in (102 × 81 mm) | 0.81 mm | 2,170 mm | 6 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 6 × 4.78 in (152 × 121 mm) | 1.2 mm | 3,255 mm | 2 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 8 × 6.38 in (203 × 162 mm) | 1.6 mm | 4,340 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 12 × 9.56 in (305 × 243 mm) | 2.4 mm | 6,511 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
