Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.86 in (25 × 22 mm) | 0.94 mm | 444 mm | 110 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.72 in (51 × 44 mm) | 1.9 mm | 887 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.57 in (76 × 65 mm) | 2.8 mm | 1,331 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.43 in (102 × 87 mm) | 3.8 mm | 1,775 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 5.15 in (152 × 131 mm) | 5.6 mm | 2,662 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.86 in (203 × 174 mm) | 7.5 mm | 3,550 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.3 in (305 × 262 mm) | 11 mm | 5,325 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
