Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.43 in (25 × 11 mm) | 0.61 mm | 422 mm | 190 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 0.87 in (51 × 22 mm) | 1.2 mm | 844 mm | 55 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 1.3 in (76 × 33 mm) | 1.8 mm | 1,266 mm | 24 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 1.74 in (102 × 44 mm) | 2.4 mm | 1,689 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 2.6 in (152 × 66 mm) | 3.7 mm | 2,533 mm | 4 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 3.47 in (203 × 88 mm) | 4.9 mm | 3,377 mm | 3 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 5.21 in (305 × 132 mm) | 7.3 mm | 5,066 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
