Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.81 × 1 in (21 × 25 mm) | 0.15 mm | 450 mm | 120 | Too fine for most machines |
| 1.63 × 2 in (41 × 51 mm) | 0.3 mm | 900 mm | 30 | Too fine for most machines |
| 2.44 × 3 in (62 × 76 mm) | 0.46 mm | 1,350 mm | 12 | Too fine for most machines |
| 3.25 × 4 in (83 × 102 mm) | 0.61 mm | 1,799 mm | 6 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |

| 6.5 × 8 in (165 × 203 mm) | 1.2 mm | 3,599 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 9.76 × 12 in (248 × 305 mm) | 1.8 mm | 5,398 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck or wall beside a cut-out; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
