Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.91 in (25 × 23 mm) | 0.61 mm | 568 mm | 100 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.83 in (51 × 46 mm) | 1.2 mm | 1,136 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.74 in (76 × 70 mm) | 1.8 mm | 1,705 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.66 in (102 × 93 mm) | 2.4 mm | 2,273 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 5.48 in (152 × 139 mm) | 3.7 mm | 3,409 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 7.31 in (203 × 186 mm) | 4.9 mm | 4,546 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.97 in (305 × 279 mm) | 7.3 mm | 6,818 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
