Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.76 in (25 × 19 mm) | 0.74 mm | 378 mm | 120 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.52 in (51 × 39 mm) | 1.5 mm | 755 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.28 in (76 × 58 mm) | 2.2 mm | 1,133 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.04 in (102 × 77 mm) | 2.9 mm | 1,511 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 4.56 in (152 × 116 mm) | 4.4 mm | 2,266 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.08 in (203 × 154 mm) | 5.9 mm | 3,022 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 9.12 in (305 × 232 mm) | 8.8 mm | 4,532 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
