Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.76 in (25 × 19 mm) | 0.97 mm | 623 mm | 120 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.53 in (51 × 39 mm) | 1.9 mm | 1,247 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.29 in (76 × 58 mm) | 2.9 mm | 1,870 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.05 in (102 × 78 mm) | 3.9 mm | 2,493 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 4.58 in (152 × 116 mm) | 5.8 mm | 3,740 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.1 in (203 × 155 mm) | 7.7 mm | 4,987 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 9.16 in (305 × 233 mm) | 12 mm | 7,480 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
