Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.76 in (25 × 19 mm) | 0.23 mm | 295 mm | 120 | Too fine for most machines |
| 2 × 1.51 in (51 × 38 mm) | 0.46 mm | 590 mm | 35 | Too fine for most machines |
| 3 × 2.27 in (76 × 58 mm) | 0.69 mm | 885 mm | 12 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 4 × 3.03 in (102 × 77 mm) | 0.91 mm | 1,180 mm | 6 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 6 × 4.54 in (152 × 115 mm) | 1.4 mm | 1,769 mm | 2 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 8 × 6.06 in (203 × 154 mm) | 1.8 mm | 2,359 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 12 × 9.08 in (305 × 231 mm) | 2.7 mm | 3,539 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
