Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.7 in (25 × 18 mm) | 0.99 mm | 495 mm | 130 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.4 in (51 × 36 mm) | 2 mm | 991 mm | 35 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.1 in (76 × 53 mm) | 3 mm | 1,486 mm | 15 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 2.8 in (102 × 71 mm) | 4 mm | 1,981 mm | 8 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 4.19 in (152 × 107 mm) | 5.9 mm | 2,972 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 5.59 in (203 × 142 mm) | 7.9 mm | 3,962 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 8.39 in (305 × 213 mm) | 12 mm | 5,944 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
