Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.82 in (25 × 21 mm) | 0.58 mm | 548 mm | 120 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 1.63 in (51 × 41 mm) | 1.2 mm | 1,095 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.44 in (76 × 62 mm) | 1.8 mm | 1,643 mm | 12 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 3.26 in (102 × 83 mm) | 2.3 mm | 2,190 mm | 6 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 4.89 in (152 × 124 mm) | 3.5 mm | 3,286 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.52 in (203 × 166 mm) | 4.7 mm | 4,381 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 9.78 in (305 × 248 mm) | 7 mm | 6,571 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
