Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.83 in (25 × 21 mm) | 1.4 mm | 252 mm | 110 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 2 × 1.67 in (51 × 42 mm) | 2.7 mm | 505 mm | 30 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 2.5 in (76 × 64 mm) | 4.1 mm | 757 mm | 12 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 4 × 3.34 in (102 × 85 mm) | 5.5 mm | 1,010 mm | 6 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 6 × 5 in (152 × 127 mm) | 8.2 mm | 1,515 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 6.67 in (203 × 169 mm) | 11 mm | 2,020 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 10.01 in (305 × 254 mm) | 16 mm | 3,030 mm | 1 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
