“First Christmas in Our New Home” set in Amatic SC, narrow hand-drawn capitals, on 3 centred lines. Tall, thin and slightly uneven, like lettering on a chalkboard; the strokes are thickened so they cut.

Will it cut at your size?
Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.73 in (25 × 18 mm) | 0.18 mm | 428 mm | 130 | Too fine for most machines |
| 2 × 1.45 in (51 × 37 mm) | 0.36 mm | 856 mm | 35 | Too fine for most machines |
| 3 × 2.17 in (76 × 55 mm) | 0.53 mm | 1,284 mm | 15 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 4 × 2.9 in (102 × 74 mm) | 0.71 mm | 1,712 mm | 6 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 6 × 4.35 in (152 × 110 mm) | 1.1 mm | 2,568 mm | 2 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 8 × 5.8 in (203 × 147 mm) | 1.4 mm | 3,424 mm | 2 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 12 × 8.7 in (305 × 221 mm) | 2.1 mm | 5,136 mm | 1 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
