Scaling a design scales its thinnest part too. Here is this one at seven sizes, from 1 to 12 inches on its longer side, with how many copies fit a 12 × 12 inch sheet or mat.
| Size, width × height | Narrowest part | Cut length | Fit on a 12 in sheet | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 0.48 in (25 × 12 mm) | 0.51 mm | 393 mm | 180 | Fine detail: vinyl and paper only, weed with care |
| 2 × 0.96 in (51 × 24 mm) | 1 mm | 785 mm | 50 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 3 × 1.43 in (76 × 36 mm) | 1.5 mm | 1,178 mm | 21 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 4 × 1.91 in (102 × 49 mm) | 2 mm | 1,571 mm | 10 | Vinyl, card and thin sheet |
| 6 × 2.87 in (152 × 73 mm) | 3 mm | 2,356 mm | 3 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 8 × 3.82 in (203 × 97 mm) | 4.1 mm | 3,141 mm | 3 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
| 12 × 5.74 in (305 × 146 mm) | 6.1 mm | 4,712 mm | 2 | Any material, including 3 mm wood and acrylic |
The narrowest part is the thinnest neck that holds the design together; sharp tips are not counted. For wood and acrylic, keep it at least as wide as the sheet is thick. How to open the file in Cricut, Silhouette and laser software.
